Now that we are in 2022, business owners are starting to implement their business plans for the year. Setting goals and measurable objectives are key to creating a business plan. Once those are set, identifying the strategies and tactics to reach those goals and objectives is the final step.
A strategy is defined as a plan of action or policy designed to achieve an overall aim. Generally, strategies provide a roadmap to your objectives. In other words, they describe the “HOW” to reach your measurable objectives. Tactics are specific tasks related to implementing a strategy.
Businesses can employ a variety of strategies, from marketing, operational efficiency, financial, pricing and more. Choose strategies that will help you to achieve the measurable objectives of your business. For instance, if a tint shop is interested in increasing the number of auto tint customers in 2022, it might look at identifying marketing strategies to reach new customers and pricing strategies that are more enticing.
Tactics are tasks that will assist a business in implementing a strategy. Imagine a check list, or a to-do list, of all of the steps it will take to accomplish a task. Each item on the checklist is a tactic.
Business owners find it helpful to identify tactics to assist with creating timelines and resources to assist with implementation. When creating tactics, assign each with who is responsible for that tactic, a timeframe of when it needs to be done and a budget (if needed). This will help a business owner see the bigger picture and ensure strategies and tactics are staying in line with the overall plan.
Here are some things to consider when tactical planning: sales channels, marketing activities, team members and responsibilities, partners and resources.
After you’ve identified your goals, objectives, strategies and tactics, it becomes easier to build your budget. List out strategies and tactics that include a cost and ensure that these are placed in your annual budget plan.
