So, you know that you should be on social media. Afterall, seven out of 10 Americans reported using social media to connect with friends and family, engage and share information and find entertainment. But what should you post?
Here are five content ideas to help you as you manage your social media accounts.
Idea No. 1: Discounts and Specials (But Don’t Over Sell)
With the market the way it is today – rising gas prices, inflation, higher housing market costs – people will be looking for deals and discounts. Let people know what monthly specials or discounts you are offering.
However, keep it in mind that while it is tempting to only post monthly specials and discounts, you don’t want your social media newsfeed to become a giant coupon book. You will lose the attention of consumers fast.
Mixing in a post sporadically (no more than two a month) among other content is a more appropriate pace. People are interested in taking advantage of sales and discounts, so you should offer them. But don’t use this as the only type of content to post. Keep reading to see more ideas.
Idea No. 2: Talk About Your Team
People want to connect with people. They also want to connect with companies’ values and positions (as though businesses are people). Take a moment to feature some of your employees.
Ideas include:
- Create an employee of the month program and feature a different employee each month.
- Take photos of film installations as it happens – with the installers included in the images.
- Ask employees to answer the question, “what window film do you have on your car and why?” and feature their answers.
- Post team photos on Fridays as part of a #FunFriday feature.
- Post baby photos of team members and ask people to identify who they might be as a #ThrowbackThursday activity.
- Offer a social media takeover by an employee – allowing them to post about the “day in the life of” for your company.
The more creative and fun you have this, the better. That brings us to our third idea:
Idea No. 3: Have Fun
Keep in mind that most people are engaging on social media to have fun. Research shows that entertainment is a big part of why people are scrolling through their news feeds. So, it’s important to try to make your posts fun.
Memes go a long way in helping to create a sense of fun. Create your own memes or share memes related to the work that you do.
Behind-the-scene posts are also very popular. For years, people have been interested in seeing the activities that take place behind the curtain. So, create posts about the operations of your shops – like when the 3M film arrives in the white and red boxes, lunch breaks with employees, videos of tough installations, and more.
Other fun ideas include hosting a social media contest, use emojis in your posts, poll your audience, share tips, participate in #ThrowbackThursday, and more. There are a ton of ideas on the internet related to “fun posts” on social media.
Idea No. 4: Think Visually
The truth is that we live in a visual world. With YouTube being the second largest search engine in the world (second only to Google), this is clear evidence that people want to watch and see content – not just read it.
This means videos and photographs are critical to add to your social content. These days, most people have smart phones, which makes it easy to produce short videos for social media. Smart phones also make it easy to capture captivating photos, as well.
Be sure to link a video or a photo to every post that you make on social media. The algorithm will take your post farther and it will get more eyes on it.
Idea No. 5: Be Authentic
This is, by far, the most important idea – be authentic in your social media posts. Be truthful, honest and real.
People want authenticity when they engage with your brand on social media. They are holding brands accountable for their content. Brands need to be true. If you stick to this idea throughout all of your social posting, you will be able to cultivate a stronger relationship with your audience. Authenticity helps to build trust.
